“Talent is Universal, but Opportunity is Not”
I have been very fortunate to have so many opportunities in my life. There are people all over the world who are not able to use the talents they have and that is a tragic loss for society as a whole. When I founded Pure Planning I wanted the company to support organizations that help children make the most of their talents. Pure Planning donates a portion of our profits to support the following organizations:
Save the Children’s Early Steps to School Success program supports some of the 15 million children who live in poverty in the United States. These children are often 18 months behind their peers developmentally by age 4. The program’s goal is to close the achievement gap before it starts. Through home visits, book exchanges, parenting groups, and an emphasis on transition to school, Early Steps staff helps children with language, social and emotional development, and equips parents and caregivers with the skills to successfully support children’s growth.
Pencils of Promise was founded on the principal that all children should have access to a quality education. Pencils of Promise creates schools, programs and global communities around the common goal of education for all. 100% of online donations go to their programs. Since 2008 they have built 400+ schools. Their programs also include teacher support – which is crucial to the success of schools after they have been built. If you have a moment read their founding story – I challenge you not to tear up!
Charity Water invests the money they raise into local organizations with years of experience to build sustainable, community-owned water projects around the world. You may be wondering how this relates to children’s education, but clean water access is critical for school success. In areas with limited water access children, particularly girls, often don’t attend schools because they must spend most of their day walking for water. In addition dirty water carries disease and sick children miss school. Charity Water’s mission is particularly close to my heart as they fund many water projects in Ethiopia, where my son was born.
