Hi, I’m Gretchen. I’m a financial planner based in the San Francisco Bay Area. I help people like you get a clear picture of your finances with a straight-forward financial plan.
I became a financial planner after my husband and I were looking for someone who could evaluate our finances. We were both in high tech, making good money but we weren’t sure we were making all the right financial decisions. (News flash – we weren’t!) Everyone I spoke with either wanted to sell me something or wondered if I had millions of dollars to invest from all of that Google stock I never bought. All we wanted to know was if we were doing the right things with our money. Were we saving enough? Were we investing correctly? Did we need disability insurance? When I couldn’t find that type of planner I decided to become one myself.
Who do I work with?
Most of my clients are smart, busy women with intense jobs and family obligations. They don’t have time for 15 page questionnaires. They’re not interested in 3 hour meetings in my fancy office where we discuss how to “beat the market”. They want to be able to call me or email with financial questions so they don’t have to lay awake at night wondering what to do. My clients appreciate technology and want access to all of their financial accounts and plan in one location. Pure Planning is ideal for people who want a straight-forward, actionable financial plan that let’s them ditch their nagging financial concerns. My clients want, and get, clarity.
How does the process work?
I can work with you in one of 2 ways: (more details and pricing here)
Peace of Mind Plan – Ongoing Financial Planning
I start by creating a financial plan to help you get a clear picture of your current finances and your goals. After the initial plan we will meet (usually by phone or online) 3 times per year to discuss any financial concerns and follow up on any open items in your plan. You will also be able to reach out to me with any financial concerns as they come up. One meeting per year will include a full review of your employee benefits, including a review and analysis of your 401(k) account(s). The majority of my clients work with me this way.
Quick Start Plan – Project Based Financial Planning
If you just have 1 or 2 specific financial concerns you would like to work through I offer a Quick Start Plan. We will have a 90 minute call to walk through your concerns. I will give you a post call action checklist so you know exactly what we discussed and the actions I suggested you take. Examples of projects I have worked on include: college planning, budget & cash flow reviews, preparing for baby, employee benefits review, investment reviews, and merging finances for couples.
What are my qualifications?
I have a Bachelors degree in Economics from the University of Nebraska and a Certificate in Financial Planning from Santa Clara University. I hold a Series 65 license and passed the Certified Financial Planner exam. I am an associate member of the XY Planning Network and NAPFA, which means I am a fiduciary (see why this matters). I also have an advanced degree in the school of life – I have lost jobs, gotten sick, gone on disability, had the wrong insurance and bought stock options I shouldn’t have. I survived all of those real life events and can help you navigate or prepare for them.
How to get started?
If you’re interested in working with me to get a clear picture of your finances the first step is to schedule a 20 minute introductory call. On the call we can discuss what you’re looking for in a financial planner and see if I’m a good fit for you. I look forward to answering any questions you have. Click this link to schedule a call.
